Alan is a National Shag Dance Champion, a member of the Beach Shagger's National Hall of Fame "Keepers of The Dance", and a former member of the National Shag Dance Championships Dance Team.
Alan got his start with Carolina Shag dancing as a teenager, in Carolina Beach NC. He quickly fell in love with the dance and the music, and began dancing in junior shag competitions. Alan is a National Shag Dance Champion, a member of the Beach Shagger’s National Hall of Fame “Keepers of The Dance”, and a former member of the National Shag Dance Championships Dance Team. He makes an effort in his dancing and teaching to preserve an older style of the dance that was taught to him by earlier generations. He is a strong believer in focusing on the basics, and that developing individual style with good basics is most important. Alan is inspired by the music that started the dance, the rhythm and blues of the 1940’s and 1950’s. He is a collector of the music and regularly deejays on the Carolina Shag scene.
